The CBD Rundown
Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of the 100+ identified cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant. Cannabinoids are naturally forming compounds found in both the human body (Endocannabinoids) and the cannabis plant (Phytocannabinoids). Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is the best-known cannabinoid. THC is psychoactive which is why marijuana makes people feel “high”. CBD is extracted from hemp plants and is non-psychoactive, so you need not worry about getting “stoned” using CBD products.
How CBD works in the body is a scientific process that scientists and cannabis researchers are still testing and learning about. A very brief and simplified summary, in everyone’s body and in the bodies of all other mammals, is the Endocannabinoid System (ECS). The purpose of the ECS is to help our bodies maintain homeostasis. Britannica.com defines homeostasis as:
“Homeostasis, any self-regulating process by which biological systems tend to maintain stability while adjusting to conditions that are optimal for survival. If homeostasis is successful, life continues; if unsuccessful, disaster or death ensues”
A bit dramatic at the end but, you get the point. The naturally produced or ingested cannabinoids interact with the ECS by binding with receptors (CB1 & CB2 receptors). These receptors are found throughout our bodies, the most concentrated areas being the head, spinal cord, and the gut. Cannabinoids that bind with receptors enhance the function of the ECS which promotes healthier regulation of our bodily functions. By strengthening our ECS with cannabinoids, we aid our bodies to reach and maintain homeostasis or aid our bodies in recovery to obtain homeostasis.
CBD can be used in several different ways. The most common ways are oil/tinctures, topicals, and capsules. CBD can also be smoked (vapes/flower/isolate) and eaten (gummy candies/hard candies). All of which we supply at our World of Hemp Store at 30-A Union Street South Concord, NC 28025!
